At Hutton Football Club we have been looking for support as the club grows and Sport England's Club Matters has given us that support."
Name: Kevin Lorkins
Team: Hutton FC
Role: Senior Development Officer & Facility Manager
A bit about the club:
Hutton FC are a large community club with around 50 teams playing at all levels from 4/5 years old up to seniors. The club holds FA Charter Standard (and therefore Clubmark) which demonstrates this club has high standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management.
Why did they access Club Matters?
Hutton FC are considering new facilities as they currently rely on school and council pitches. Alongside understanding the support available through funding and grants, Hutton FC wanted to work out the best way to structure themselves considering the liability of owning their grounds. Essex FA suggested that Hutton FC applied for a free Club Matters mentor for help and ideas.
How has Club Matters helped?
Kevin met with his mentor, Alex to discuss the options for structuring and protecting themselves against liability at the new ground. Alex was able to talk Kevin through the different options for club structure and offer some great tips on best practice which sparked new ideas for Kevin. Alex also provided Hutton FC with useful documents on the implications of liability which Kevin is going to present at the next steering group to help them decide their future.
How else can Club Matters help?
Kevin plans to use the new CASC guidance Club Matters developed in partnership with HMRC to understand the new rules and check if Hutton FC are eligible. Kevin knows that promoting the club is vital so he is going to encourage his committee and volunteers to access the Club Matters marketing workshops and online modules to develop their skills and build awareness for the clubs. Hutton FC grow, they will also need to develop partnerships with other facilities and organisations so the online content on this will be very useful.
