It’s that time of year again! With Christmas just over a month away, sports clubs up and down the country will be getting ready for the festive season. It can be a busy time, both for clubs and within our personal lives, but proper preparation will mean you make the most of the festive period.
To help your club make the most of the festive period, with the help of our guest editor Rachel Yankey, we have pulled together some ideas to get your club in the Christmas spirit and attract more members whilst you are at it.
- Christmas Party
A Christmas party is the perfect way to bring the club together and there are so many different things you can do. Ideas include:
- Movie night
- Host a dance in your clubhouse
- Quiz night
- Going out for dinner
They can be big or small, whatever suits your club and budget. You can also open the invitation up, get existing members to bring along friends and family – the perfect chance to attract new members in a sociable and fun atmosphere.
- Open training sessions
Open up any training sessions you are holding over December to non-members. With kids on school holidays and adults taking time off work, people will be looking to get out there and get active. Put the word out on your social media networks and website and get your members to spread the word. Another useful tactic is putting up flyers at local venues (e.g. schools, supermarkets, libraries) to reach those living near to your club. Why not have an open training session on Boxing Day – many members and non-members alike might be grateful of a few hours of exercise and fresh air by this point!
- Bringing family and friends along
Similar to the open training sessions, encourage your members to bring their friends and family along to sessions and matches during December. For adult or child only clubs, hosting a parent-child training session or match is a fun way for members to bond and will mean parents don’t have to skip any sessions whilst their kids are at home over the school holidays. For clubs that cater to all ages, encourage your members to bring a +1 to training, this is a great way to show off what your club is all about and chat to them about signing up.
